English version:
From September 15th to 20th, 2024, a short training session was held for employees in Reggio Calabria, Italy as part of the project „Recipe for Activity – Volunteering for Seniors”, financed by the European Erasmus+ program (ref. 2023-2-PL01-KA210-ADU-000184777).
Participants included representatives from Italy – representing the Innovamentis organization, the „Leave Home” Foundation for the Support of Disabled People, and the Homini Association of Kwiatonowice, which is the leader of this project.
The goal of the mobility was to learn about the most effective ways to build self-esteem and stimulate cognitive abilities through informal activities tailored to the needs of older adults.
The training covered topics such as:
- methods of organizing and coordinating training sessions to encourage potential older adults to slow cognitive decline and positively impact their mental well-being;
- organizational aspects for social structures: group consulting interventions and playful activities in day centers.
- Methods of stimulating cognitive abilities through non-formal activities tailored to the individual’s abilities.
- Digital tools facilitating memory and orientation in the environment (using virtual reality with seniors). Among the digital tools presented was Google Cardboard – virtual glasses that can be used in therapy to stimulate memory and concentration in seniors.
- Mental training was conducted using readings and games to improve memory.
Training participants had the opportunity to learn about the interesting history and culture of the city. They participated in the Reggio Calabria Live Festival taking place at the same time and visited the National Museum of Magna Graecia, Museo Archeologico Nazionale Reggio Calabria, which was founded in 1882 and is located in the center of Reggio Calabria.
Without a doubt, the main attraction of the Museum was the specially sealed room housing the famous Riace Bronzes.
We would like to thank the organizers for such a well-organized training, as well as Ms. Kasia Gralińska for her wonderful translation from Italian during the training.
